America on The Move: In Numbers

According to the United States Census Bureau, a total of 27.1 million Americans moved in 2021, so about 8.4% percent. Even though this seems like a lot, it’s actually the lowest percentage of moves in decades. The reason for that is, of course, the global pandemic, which greatly affected every aspect of living, including the migrations from one city or state to another. People were lucky to hold onto a stable employment in efforts to just “go by”, without any drastic yet unnecessary changes.

However, 2022. brought new energy. The pandemic is still alive and well but significantly tamed in comparison to 2021., which opened many new windows to people all around the globe. The job market is blossoming, and many people are choosing to move again, in hopes of scoring a better job somewhere else.

Are You Ready to Move?

According to move.org, in 2021. most people moved from the state of California. However, if you’re among those that decided to stay in the Land of Milk and Honey, we believe you’re not sleeping on the great opportunities that are arising every day. Once the time is right, and you’re ready to move, Long Beach Movers will be by your side!

How to Know When To Hire House Packing Services?

Moving on your own is challenging, but moving with a family is a whole other level of stress. So how do you choose the right time for the move? We’re here to help!

Off-Season Is Your Best Friend

The offseason is a period between October and April, when the least number of people is actually moving. This brings numerous benefits: lower moving costs, seasonal discounts, cheaper packing materials, cheap rental trucks.

Los Angeles Schools

In the city of Los Angeles, the school usually starts mid August, so it would be wise to move and get settled before the school starts. This will make things so much easier for you and for your kids, as they will already be familiar with the new environment at least to an extent, so the transition to a new home won’t be too overwhelming.

Weather

One of the perks of living in California is that the weather is great almost all the time. This is a huge advance, since now you can use all the offseason perks without thinking about snow or rain or other issues the bad weather may bring. Your items will remain safe, sound and dry, and that’s very important!

Once you choose your date, the next step would be to organize your move. While many people decide to pack their belongings on their own, today we will focus on how you can make your life easier by hiring a house packing service with Long Beach Movers.

What Kind of House Packing Services Do We Offer?

In order to help you make the best decision for your upcoming move, we will introduce you to the two types of service we provide when it comes to house packing – partial packing and full pack service.

Partial House Packing

Partial packing includes the packing of certain rooms or areas only, rather than packing the whole house or all of your belongings. This type of service is usually used for last-minute moves, where our clients must move in a jiff and there’s simply not enough time to box everything up. The reasons for the last minute moves are many, including some of the most negative or even traumatic events. Long Beach Movers promises to stay by your side whatever the reason for the move is.

Partial House Packing – Kitchen

Our clients usually ask for the partial packing of their kitchens. Kitchen items, including glassware, pots and pans, are very sensitive to vibrations in the truck and can be easily damaged if not packed and wrapped properly. This is where we jump in – our movers will carefully pack all fragile items in wrapping paper or clothes and then safely place them inside a clearly marked box, so there’s no confusion about the content of the box. The boxes will then be placed in your new kitchen, so the unpacking will be a piece of cake.

Full House Packing Service

Our full house packing service consists of packing all your personal belongings and other items in boxes. This is usually the most expensive type of move, given the fact that our movers will spend a significant amount of hours in house packing, wrapping, and protecting your belongings, rather than just moving already packed boxes.

This type of service is usually utilized by people that are very busy in their personal lives and careers, so a task as huge as packing can be too overwhelming and time-consuming for them.

Another very common case is when we’re moving an elderly person into an assisted living facility, or between two facilities. The families prefer to spend their time with their loved ones before they move out, rather than subjecting them to an emotionally and physically overwhelming process such as packing.

How to Experience A Stress-Free House Move?

As a family person, moving becomes a whole other adventure. Between navigating the move, organizing utilities, moving company, and the cleaning service, you also have to be mindful of your children and pets, so your move can actually go smoothly and without any surprises.

Having kids around the moving truck, equipment, and tools may seem intimidating but with some organization tactics you can turn this into a fun, family-bonding experience, where your children will contribute and be included in the moving process, rather than just observing it.

Prepare for The Move in Advance

Whether you’re hiring house packing service or not, it is advisable to pack your children’s belongings with them. Focus on one room at a time, and have them sort their items into piles: clothes, shoes, toys, books, toiletries, gadgets, etc. Have them label their own boxes in fun colors or drawings, and if they’re old enough, allow them to pack their own personal, important items, such as favorite toys, room decor, framed photos, posters, etc. This will give them a sense of importance and allow them to become active participants in the moving process.

Keep An Eye on Your Kids During the Preparations

As much as allowing the kids to participate in the move can be a good thing, it can also lead to potential problems that no one would wish to deal with on the moving day. Make sure your children will not have access to important documents, money, electronics, jewelry, keys, tools, sharp objects, etc. during the packing and preparing for the move.

Little kids tend to be drawn towards sparkly objects, so your precious jewelry can easily end up in the kid’s boxes, and who would want that? During the packing, focus on one room first, whether it’s a kid’s bedroom or a playroom, and overlook their movements outside of the room. Always make sure they are only taking care of their own items.

Prepare a To-Go Kit

Chances are that you won’t have the time to look for the change of clothes or that particular toy halfway through the move. This is where a to-go bag could save the day.

This could be any bag big enough to hold the moving essentials:

  • At least one change of clothes for each child, yourself, and your partner
  • Baby formula, bottled water, juice, and favorite snacks
  • Favorite toys
  • Chargers for the phone and the tablet
  • Necessary meds and supplements (if any)
  • Small tools kit
  • ID, cash and keys

Once you have this bag on hand, it will be much easier to go through the day and be prepared for any situation.

Organize a Babysitter or Daycare

Of course, it is not always possible to include your kids in the move. Whether you’re having a newborn baby, or if your children are too small to productively participate, yet old enough to make a mess or be in the movers’ way, best thing you could do is to organize a daycare or a babysitter to take care of them during the packing and the move itself.

This may seem like an unexpected and unnecessary expense, but your child’s safety is priceless. Our movers are mostly family men, too, but when they’re working, they are mainly focused on the move and they may not see your child until it’s too late. It’s better to be safe than sorry.

A good daycare can save your day and make your kid’s day more enjoyable, especially if they’re little!

Remember That Your Kids Are Going Through It, Too

It’s good to keep in mind that your move – your family’s move – is happening to your kids the same way it’s happening to you. They will change the environment, schools, surroundings, and that can be very overwhelming for children. It is up to you as a parent to maintain a positive attitude about the move and to radiate that positivity towards your kids!

If you’re full of joy, dancing around the boxes and singing a happy tune, the kids will match your energy and participate in all the activities you have planned for them.

Of course, you are bound to hear “Are we done yet?” at least a thousand times, but hey, at least you’re in this together!
